Kindergarten
The YKCS Kindergarten program believes that each child is a unique gift from God. Our teachers and educational assistants provide a secure and stimulating environment in which to maximize each child’s potential - emotionally, physically, spiritually, creatively, and socially.
Our program follows the government-approved curriculum. Our hands-on program emphasizes experiential learning, including several field trips throughout the year. Students are taught math and literacy, with the goal of mastering basic concepts for a solid learning foundation and many opportunities to develop their skills further and provide readiness for Grade 1. Our literacy program is based on the evidence from the science of reading and structured literacy. Kindergarten students also participate in daily physical education classes and weekly music classes and many opportunities to develop fine motor and social skills.
Discipleship-based education is a focus at YKCS, and we seek to build a genuine and authentic love for God in our students. Through a caring and nurturing environment, our teachers take the time to speak into the lives of the students they teach. We have a daily Bible class, exploring popular bible stories of both the Old and New Testament, and Christian principles are reinforced throughout the day.
Our kindergarten program runs both a full-day (Monday through Friday) program and part-time (with discussion with the Principal and teacher for which days). Our staff prioritizes partnering with parents. We are privileged to assist in equipping children for today and eternity, as we disciple them through building godly relationships and biblical-based principles.
Alberta Education’s age policy states that the child must be 5 years old by December 31 of the school year in which he or she will be attending the Kindergarten Program.
